What is Zen do Ryu Remote Viewing?©

The name I chose has a great deal to do with my philosophy about Remote Viewing. Here are the individual definitions of the words:

Zen: Zen, which has been in English since 1727, is the Japanese pronunciation of Chinese chan, "quietude." Chan comes from Pali jhanam, from Sanskrit dhyanam, "meditation," from the Sanskrit root dhya-, dhi-, "to see, observe." The Indo-European root behind the Sanskrit is *dhei-, *dhya-, "to see, look at." (credit)
do: A way of doing things; a way of life.
Ryu: A system, school, style, or 'manner of flowing'.

When used together such as for a martial arts discipline, "Zen do Ryu" (in slang sometimes called ZDR) means "all ways," or in modern slang, "free-style." However, the traditional use of Zen do Ryu in martial arts does not generally translate to "do anything any way you want," or you would not be able to tell a dojo from a boxing ring or aerobics studio -- it isn't THAT freeform. It translates more like, "learn everything you wish of many styles; use whatever style or combination of styles you wish, in your own way; the success of your efforts will be measured by the mat."

Within the school, teacher-sphere or organization though, there is the larger context of Japanese martial arts: a focus on discipline, on honor and integrity, on a continual striving for personal improvement, on respect for the Art, the mat, the sensei and others you study with, and on a general philosophy which in a Remote Viewing context, one viewer (Joseph McMoneagle) described as "RV 'do"©. (That is his term, not mine.)

It is my belief that the mind of an individual is highly unique, even though certain physiological and psychological commonalities exist. It is my observation that some people do well with a highly structured Art (such as CRV), while others do much better with a more unstructured (and even 'natural, self-taught') Art, and still others find some degree in between, using "tools and pieces" they have picked up from RV methods, from traditional psychic methods, from other psi-related fields, and even from their own innovations. It is my belief that most serious viewers have an approach which "flows and evolves" as the years pass; and that this is based not only on greater experience, but on internal changes within the person, as well.

As a result of these beliefs (based on observation and experience), I support all viewers finding their own 'do -- their own way; but I strongly believe in doing so within the context and philosophy I have described above. So 'Zen do' best describes our Ryu (or 'style'). This is what I pursue, what I teach those around me, and what I welcome others into my dojo with. Each viewer has their own approach to the Art, but they are all Remote Viewing formally, within an appropriate RV (science-sourced) protocol. The respect for science is as much a part of our philosophy as our style.

Addendum:

Why is the term copyrighted?

I understand the sensitivity about 'ownership' in the field due to the marketing mania RV suffers. I've seen the copyright/trademark approach abused in RV before -- such as choosing a common English phrase used in RV with one meaning, and trademarking it to mean a methodology instead, which then misrepresents the original meaning, and causes no end of confusion in the public as they misconstrue the two -- not by accident but by design. Yet I've seen my own writings sold by others, or paraphrased to demonstrate someone else's expertise; worse, parroted back incorrectly so they're even miseducating people... I know what that feels like, and I've never complained before, but now if it happens again I certainly will.

I have a distinctive approach to RV which I have had for quite some time. Years ago (2001-2002) I came up with the concept of the Dojo Psi, a format which embodied much of what I respected and how I wanted to approach Remote Viewing. (And no, it is probably not coincidence that it to some degree models the philosophy of viewer Joseph McMoneagle; I admire his work and his character, and it is no secret that he has influenced me for the better concerning Remote Viewing.) I wanted a distinctive style name that would not be anything like something already used as a common science phrase or methodology in RV, but which also was a presentation of philosophy, to some degree.

By accident or design, through flattery or to malign, people have been "borrowing without attribution" my online work, terms and writings and website page contents for nearly a dozen years now. Copyrighting my style-name is the only way to separate my approach -- by which I mean the larger context of the dojo and how I run viewing and the dojo itself, of course, not just the allowance of many styles, which is not uncommon -- from that of others.
