I wrote this for someone else on another forum and thought it might be useful for folks here, now that we are going to start having more video stuff available.
-------------------------------------------------
Instructions for how to get videos and player to your hard drive, so your internet connection won't matter.
Go get GOM player, it's free.
http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.htmlYou should be using Firefox Browser anyway, it's free.
http://www.firefox.comGo get a Firefox plugin for saving video files of all kinds, like this one:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7447Download it. (In the future should you need to remove it, you can find it in your browser under tools > add ons > extensions tab ) It will tell you it needs to restart firefox.
Use the button on the download box to restart it offers, as it will save your tabs (do not have any unsaved text in forms in them!) and restart much quicker than doing it manually.
Now when you go to a page that has an accessible flash video file, such as youtube for example, down on your status bar (that is the tiny white/grey bar at the very bottom of your browser) on the far right you will see this little blue sphere with an arrow on it and a number. That number tells you how many accessible videos it finds in your open browser windows. If you click that button, it opens a window that shows you the video it finds and lets you either play them or download them.
So once you have all that in place here is what you can use to test it. Go to the RV Galleries video at youtube, here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPbn9s33r3ABottom right on status bar should say at least '1', click that icon next to it, from the pop-up screen select "download". I recommend you make a folder inside your "my documents" folder that is for videos so it is easy to find.
THEN: install GOM. Open the program. At the top left corner where it says "GOM" click that icon and it will pop up a big menu for you. From the menu choose "open file" or just forget that, just press Ctrl+O and it will go to that option automatically. Find the file you just downloaded to your hard drive, and open it. GOM will now play it for you.
You're off the internet now so your connection won't matter.
Note: There are plugins for firefox that will actually convert flv's to mp3's for you for things like music videos. It's not high quality but if it's all you've got it's worth it.
Hope that helps,
PJ
