Aloha list folks,

A point that has bothered me... since I began my journey ...learning
about RV...came up again tonight...I was watching the Discovery Science
Channel series Body and Mind...It was concerned with our mental
processing ...in combination with advertising ...and our obsessions with
shopping...basicly how the advertising depts. of stores... manipulate us
...into buying what they want us to...by directing/catching our
attention/focus...

This program began ...by stating that the majority of the time we are
shopping ...in a supermarket...we are in our somewhat subconscious
"BETA' mode
and switch into our... completely aware... "ALPHA" mode ...when we spot
a needed item...and our superconscious takes over...into active Alpha...

I bring this up... because I have been somewhat irritated/puzzled ...by
the way we use these terms...because ...Alpha comes before Beta
historically...in the 'normal' world...(and the aforementioned program
dialogue) ...This is what I thought/was taught... was
appropriate...before... reading  boards/links through RV...

In RV... the exact opposite is said to be true...Beta is awake/ more
aware mode ...and alpha... is daydreaming (less awake)or somewhat
subconcious mode...(of course... nothing compared to Theta/Delta)...

I wonder if any one can explain to me ...how these two words came to be
juxtaposed...alpha equaling one and beta= two...except ...for in remote
viewing...in regard to brainwaves...where beta is said to be one...or
most awake and alpha is said to be two ...and more into the
subconscious...?

Who made these decisions and why were they not taught the ancient meaning
for these terms...and/or why did they change their placement?

This is the kind of stuff I do/ruminate about... in RV alpha......This
has bugged me for two years and I have yet to receive an
answer......Help?

Hi,

I saw the same show...and it set my teeth on edge when they kept referring to an
alpha state as beta, and vice versa.  It is ALL in regard to brainwaves.  Why
scientists chose to call beta waves beta and alpha waves alpha, I do not know. 
But when our brain waves are showing predominant alpha, we are in an alpha (and
altered) state, from our "normal" beta waking state.

Aloha Sharon,

I know...it really bugged me to...hahah...I have been brainwashed into
the RV version!hahaha...but the actual language is the other way
around...and before I became accostomed to RV /brainwaves version of
alpha and Beta...I was accustomed to the original positioning...I need to
know why?...It is such a mystery to me!...Who screwed
up?...hahaha...Doesn't anybody know?...Why?...Please?

PJ...can you throw that in to Ed May's questions?...or is it too
late?...this has bugged me for two years...and I can't take it
anymore!...
