Hi.
Yeah, I've had far more than just 6-7 misses in a row, too. Joe's not
kidding around about that. I think the most I've had is somehwere around 26
or 27 in a row. Very, very demoralizing. A year or so ago I was trying to
RV in my spare time at work. My office was next to a garage where dump
trucks were being worked on. With the sound of air ratchets, guys yelling
and cursing, phones ringing, dropping large pieces of metal, etc. ; I
amazingly nailed my first target in that environment and then went on to
completely miss 20 or more in a row. I just kept trying though, and
eventually, it lined out and I started getting better and better. I guess I
had to learn to concentrate and focus better. Now, I think it was very good
for me. I used to have to have total silience when I RVed. Not anymore.
Even a TV set at pretty high volume in the same room with me doesn't bother
me much.
Tunde, I use my own method. I'm untrained. From what I've read, I guess
it's a lot like Joe's. I do progressive physical relaxation, then quiet my
mind for about 5 minutes, then I just open to the target. There's a lot of
little tricks I've picked up from others and learned on my own for getting at
data that seems hard to understand or is fleeting in some way, but that's
basically it. I just learned by practicing as much as possible. I've done a
little over 2200 targets in the last 3-4 years. I try to average 2-3 per day.
One thing I've noticed is that, following a long string of misses, I seem to
suddenly improve quite a bit. I become much better than I was before the
losing streak started. After I noticed that, the missing doesn't bother me
anymore. I know that it very likely means I'm going to get better soon.
Best Regards,
Don

Aaauuugh! That's a wonderful way to look at it. My RV angst all
this time and you never thought to mention this gem to me. ;-)
I admit I have noticed that when there is some problem and it finally
settles down, I do sense there is improvement, not just in that
particular problem but sort of in the process across the board.
This makes me think how anything has a "re-adjustment period". For
example in business esp. operations (with quotas etc.) if you change
a procedure or change your staff, even if you've improved things,
there will initially be a falloff in either quantity or quality on
the line, and then it really gets going again, better.
Thinking out loud here. You know how I tend to consider my
psychology to be a whole lot of energies that - on good days - are
all operating hopefully in one general direction that the "I as I
know Me" intends - maybe when we change our belief systems, it is
almost like a shuffling of personnel. Maybe some are new to the job
and others are doing different things and they're all a little
uncomfortable with the new process. Maybe that will cause a variety
of 'symptoms' that result, in one way or another, in session problems.
Maybe a sudden "spate" of session problems should be seen as
something to simply investigate: if one changed the way they were
doing something and that can be causually connected, then obviously
it's worth experimenting to see if that's a problem. But if nothing
really changed, and it's more than just a couple off sessions, then
maybe it should be looked at as a potential change INTERNALLY. And
if one is RVing regularly, those are generally positive changes in
the end I'd think, adjustments.
That's a fabulous way to look at failure. You'll have to imagine my
female-announcer voice, "Please be aware that our RV Department is
undergoing temporary modifications, and not all abilities are
currently available. We will have a grand opening of our new and
expanded RV Proficiency soon and we welcome you to join us. Thank
you for shopping at PJRV." ROFL.
