PJ,
You're brilliant. Now why on earth didn't I think of that! It's just my
style...simple, logical and you end up on a clearer path than when you started.
thank you, thank you thank you!

Moderator's note: I actually got the idea -- well it was mine but it was sparked
by something -- from a book called "Bander Snatch" by Kevin O'Donnell Jr.
Anybody interested in telepathy should consider doing a used bookstore search
for this. It is dark, and crude, and sarcastic -- it is the first book by the
author (an advanced martial artist) when he was quite young. I corresponded
with him a little, he was a little embarrassed by it was my impression, but
despite its crudity, I thought it was really brilliant. Some of his
conceptualizations were interesting, it's sort of like "street gang sci fi" if
there is such a genre! And his humor is so ironic it's hilarious if you have a
dark and twisted side. I even adopted quite a bit of his slang from it years
ago. :-) Anyway this one minor character said he recognized people with high
psi talent when he'd conceptualize "blowing a wind through them" and if he met
resistance, he felt they had psi. It gave me the idea, indirectly. But, given
I never seem to think up anything novel - every brilliant idea I have has not
only usually been written before, but usually centuries ago - there's a good
chance that approach actually exists somewhere already. :-) PJ

I think of it in a similar way as just being a product of empathy. I
think we naturally tend to be influenced by those around us. If they
are sad, we tend to feel sad. But sometimes it can be much more
subtle and less obvious or perhaps it can even be a deliberate
attempt by others. What seems to help me is to just concentrate on
who I am as a person and just shine that brighter and stronger. I
think of it as similar to the waking world in which someone might say
something and you can be swayed by it or decide you disagree with it
because it is not for you. And of course there are times when you
might decide that you do want to allow something to influence you if
you feel it is a goodness and light type scenario that could help
you.
