But strength is not supposed to be a factor. The classic bending goes from
merely holding it up and yelling "bend" to some form of gentle
stroking. The most muscle suppode to be used is a fingertip to guide the
bending direction. All I saw were popping biceps. :)
And.... whats so magical about silverware? Why not start out with a
paperclip? Coat hangers are really easy. Why metal? How about a
toothpick? wood or plastic?

The reason I mentioned hypnosis is because that explains the
subjective experience of the bender. That would explain why people
say it bent so easily, they weren't using their strenght, etc. I
think it's because they were mildly hypnotized and so their
perception of the event was slightly altered. Anyway, it's just a
theory.

Oh please....... don't get me started on spoon bending.

Moderator's note: LOL. You are from the spoon anti-defamation league?
It doesn't count to bend a spoon if you're touching it? Hey I heard of
an experiment with a steel surgical tool in a test tube trying to be
PK'd. The tool vanished. Out of the sealed tube. Unfortunately as
this was not replicable it won't get discussed publicly, but this sort
of thing does lend interest to the TK topic. Some of the questions for
Ed May deal with TK (he is a bigger skeptic than skeptics, and he's
studied it a LOT! - I think it's more that he has an alternate view
of it, than that things which 'appear to be' TK don't happen). Alas
those likely won't show up for quite some time, till the later
interviews. Oh yeah, spoons: er, other than the questionably PKness
of anything bending when someone is touching it, rubbing it, and
pressing on it... whazza problem? ;-) PJ

I have been to two spoon bending parties at the two RV conferences I went to.
I can confidently state that spoons do not bend when I am watching. My power
to keep
them straight is far greater. ........and I don't even touch them. heheheh
I did see "fakers" at both events. I watched one guy give it the two handed
twist and shove
routine then hold it up and shout "look". I called him on it and he admitted
to it. I saw another
using plain old muscle power time after time and going around showing off his
bendings.
At some point in the party, the group is told to just hold up their spoons
and forks in one hand
and yell at them to bend. Darn, not a one!
At the first party, some woman was going around bending spoons and forks like
an Amway
demonstrator showing how their hand cleaner works. All I saw was a lot of
muscle power.
She did not bend the cup part (whatever its called) of a spoon in these many
demos.
I found in the pile of spoonware, a heavy duty sample and passed it around to
anyone who claimed
they could do it. It became my souvenier, the unbent spoon. :) I also
discovered that no
"name brand" RVer would demo spoon bending, especially my heavy duty find. It
was like holding
a cross to a vampire. :)
Several people later told me their spoons or forks had bent and I will not
argue with them. No
different than debating whether someone saw a UFO. I wasn't there, didnt see
it, didnt see it happen
with a hundred plus people trying but somehow managed to see some frauds.
Maybe its like what they say
about RV. If you want to RV aliens, you will RV aliens.

Yeah, that sums it up for my experiences at the PK parties as well.
HOwever, I do believe that some people believe they bent a spoon.
But I also believe that it can be easily explained by a mild state of
hypnosis. Under hypnosis, people have been documented as performing
far greater feats of strength and control than mere bending of flimsy
spoons. And I have to agree that the spoons and forks used at the
parties were barely strong enough to hold down an ornery steak!

I'm also a huge skeptic of most spoon bending tales. I suspect a lot
of it has more to do with hypnosis than anything. Now I'm not saying
it can't or doesn't ever happen. One thing I have learned in recent
years is to never say never! It's only that I am suspicious of most
incidents of it and I have yet to personally see anything that didn't
seem more easily explained by a light hypnotic state.

Thanks for the comments on spoon bending. I've never
been to a spoon bending party, never given it a try.
I'm curious about it, and I think I'll see what this
online spoon bending thing is all about. I'll let
you all know when our silverware is mangled.
What's everyone's opinion on micro-PK? It seems like
there's a lot of evidence that it's for real.

I find it believable that PK can exist, either on a macro or micro
level. I just think we have to be careful that when we claim we have
evidence, that we really do have evidence. I haven't really delved
into the evidence on micro-PK though.

hahahahaha...Your a funny guy Rich...hahaha...I certainly am no name
brand viewer...as we all know...but I too had severely mixed feelings
about the fork/ spoon 'bending'...at the 2001 conference...So we need
training for that too?
It was fun...I got some laughs...but could just not take it seriously...I
got the old giggle reaction...I gave up early on and just observed
everyone else...I saw pretty much what you saw...the tableware was made
of real rickety material primarily and the best one I saw
'bending'...were the pubescent children...
The best part about it was... it was a large group activity...and that
was the worth of it to me...It would be grand to have a more relative
large group psi exercise...

If you go to the below website and then click on the "Spoon bending course
preview" it will take you to a flash video. I had to wait some time for it
to load but well worth the wait in my opinion!
