From what I have read, that seems to be the current theory. I know in our waking consciousness, we can relate objects, events and sensations one-to-another. We'd call that daisy-chaining of mental objects/concepts our "stream of consciousness". The "water" in that "stream", if you will forgive my dissecting this metaphor, is the practical, waking need to associate mental concepts to achieve some biological goal. To move around and function in this material world, we need to be able to associate concepts via their shared properties. But when psychologists study your "stream of consciousness" to discover aspects of your psyche, aren't they actually looking at the connections your Prime-consciousness exhibits? Do the two streams overlap? And what is the "water" in the stream of the Prime- consciousness? It seems that in dreams, or in hypnagogic experiences, there are different but consistant associations of concepts than those of the waking mind. When we "free associate", we are making associations "free" of the waking consciousness' connections, and only looking at the prime-consciousness' connections. MY POINT....then... is to ask, Do the two streams interact? What is the water in the Prime-consciousness' "stream of consciousness"?
